How does General class booking work?

General (unreserved) class tickets are bought from station counters or UTS app. No PNR is issued — just a paper ticket valid for the train and date. No seat allotted; first-come basis.

General Class = unreserved coach (often 2 coaches per long-distance train).

How it works:

  • Buy ticket at station counter or via UTS app (Unreserved Ticketing System).
  • No PNR is issued — ticket has its own ticket number.
  • No seat reservation — first-come, first-serve.
  • Valid only on the train + date specified.

Tickets:

  • 2nd Class (II): cheapest
  • 2nd Class Sitting (2S): slightly more, with seats marked

Validity: Usually valid for 24 hours or until next station beyond your destination.

Cannot be checked via PNR — these don't have PNRs. Use the ticket number printed on the paper ticket.
