How to track a live running train?

Use Indian Railways NTES website / app, or any railway tracking site. Enter train number to see current location, last station crossed, expected arrival times, and delay info.

Live train running status is independent of PNR.

Where to check:

  • NTES (National Train Enquiry System) — official: enquiry.indianrail.gov.in
  • IRCTC Rail Connect mobile app
  • Third-party trackers (where2trip, RailYatri, ixigo)

What to enter:

  • Train number (e.g., 12309)

What you see:

  • Current location (on map or station list)
  • Last station passed
  • Expected arrival/departure at upcoming stations
  • Delay information per station
  • Platform number (at upcoming station)

GPS source: Indian Railways uses GPS-based tracking on most major trains. Updates roughly every 1-2 minutes.

Tip for boarding: Check status at least 1 hour before scheduled time — the train may be delayed.
