What is a platform ticket? When do I need one?

Platform ticket (₹10-30) lets a non-traveler enter the platform for 2 hours to drop off / receive someone. Available at counter or UTS app. Different from train tickets which allow boarding.

Platform Ticket is for non-passengers entering the platform.

Use cases:

  • Drop off / pick up a passenger
  • Help elderly/disabled traveler board
  • Visit a station / observe trains

Cost: ₹10-30 (varies by station; metros are higher)

Validity: 2 hours from time of issue.

Where to buy:

  • Station counter
  • UTS mobile app (digital, paperless)
  • Some kiosks at large stations

Limitations:

  • Cannot board any train.
  • Caught on a train without valid ticket = penalty (3x ticket fare or fine).
  • Cannot exit at a different station.

Note: Many small stations have free platform access (no ticket needed). Major junctions and metros require platform ticket.
