What is PQWL in train PNR?

PQWL (Pooled Quota Waiting List) is given when intermediate-to-intermediate bookings on a train are full. Confirmation chances are typically lower than GNWL.

PQWL = Pooled Quota Waiting List.

Indian Railways reserves a pooled quota for short-distance journeys that don't include origin or destination — for example, Patna → Lucknow on a Delhi → Howrah train.

Key points:

  • Pool is small, so PQWL confirms slowly.
  • A PQWL of 5+ rarely confirms.
  • If the journey starts/ends at the train's true origin or destination, you'll get GNWL instead.

For important travel, prefer trains where your station is origin/destination/major halt.
