What is Split PNR? When does it happen?

Split PNR happens when some passengers in a group booking get confirmed and others stay on waitlist after chart prep. The waitlisted ones get a separate auto-cancelled PNR while confirmed travel under the original PNR.

Split PNR = single PNR is split into two during chart preparation.

When it happens:

  • Group booking (e.g., 4 passengers).
  • After chart prep, 2 confirmed and 2 still WL.

What happens:

  • The original PNR keeps the confirmed passengers.
  • A new auto-cancelled PNR is created for the WL passengers (refund issued).
  • Confirmed passengers travel as a group on the original PNR.

To avoid:

  • Book each pair separately if you absolutely must travel together.
  • Or book early to maximize confirmation chance.

Split only happens for e-tickets (counter tickets stay together).
