Can I transfer my train ticket to another person?

Limited transfer is allowed only to immediate family (parents, spouse, children, siblings). Apply at the booking station 24+ hours before departure with ID proofs of both passengers. Free service.

Ticket transfer is heavily restricted — to prevent ticket scalping.

Allowed transfers:

  • For government employees travelling on duty (with documentation)
  • For NCC cadets / students in groups (with letter)

How to transfer:

  1. Visit the booking station's reservation office ≥ 24 hours before departure.
  2. Carry original photo ID of both the original and new passenger.
  3. Submit a written request stating the relationship.
  4. Submit relationship proof if asked (Aadhaar showing same address, etc.).
  5. The clerk modifies the ticket on the spot.

Not allowed:

  • Transfer to friends, distant relatives, colleagues.
  • Transfer between unknown parties.
  • Online transfer (must be in person).

Fee: free.
